arc/sec is an interdisciplinary research Lab at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland.

Headed by Assoc. Prof. Uwe Rieger the Lab operates at the intersection of university, industry and community. Next to running focused research projects, it connects applied research with teaching on postgraduate and undergraduate level.

Collectively the arc/sec team explores concepts for new buildings and urban conditions in which digital information is both connected to spatial appearance and linked to material properties. This approach steps beyond digital simulation and digital fabrication, working to the point where data is re-connected to the human interaction with the physical world.

The objective of the arc/sec Lab is to apply technology and explore Tangible Data within an architectural design and realization context.

The underlying research agenda of the arc/sec Lab is to investigate functional, programmatic and aesthetic design parameters for interactive environments that use data as a new source for architectural construction.
